Dusty Moon

Dusty Moon, the musical duo of Linda Maki and Rick Merritt, features an eclectic mix of acoustic originals and covers, warm harmonies and a dollop of banjo. They are inspired by brother duets such as the Louvins and Everlys, as well as the beloved pop music they grew up with, adding hints of bluegrass, gospel and jazz. With original songs and fresh covers of old favorites, this folk duo hopes to entertain and move you.
Linda Maki
Vocals, guitar, banjo, xylophone
Her grandpa was a ukulele-playing vaudeville actor and singer, and maybe his voice from beyond called Linda to start singing as a child. She picked up the guitar at age 10, the string bass a few years ago, and the banjo just a few short months ago. She has played bluegrass and other types of music throughout the Bay Area and beyond in bands and at festivals, jams, and camps. She most recently sang and played bass with the bluegrass band South County Special. She is happy to be playing and singing those lovely harmonies with Rick Merritt in the new duo Dusty Moon.
Rick Merritt
Guitar, vocals
After seeing the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show, Rick was hooked and begged his Mom to buy him an acoustic guitar. He learned the songs of the folk/rock idols of his youth along with friends jamming in his basement. Patrick Francis O’Rourke, his friend and musical mentor in NY, encouraged him to play his songs at open mics. Since 2002, he has been nurtured by the South Bay Folks in San Jose where he met veteran musician Tom Morales and briefly formed the duo Neighbors. He credits friend and classical vocalist Frank Farris for helping him unlearn some really bad singing habits. The year 2012 was a milestone for Rick: he started working on his first professionally recorded CD and met new musical collaborator Linda Maki, forming Dusty Moon.
