Vilia is an award winning Middle Eastern dance performer, choreographer and instructor based in San Diego, California. In addition to being on staff as a Middle Eastern dance instructor at the University of California San Diego, Vilia also choreographs and directs the multi-award winning, Arabina Dance Company. Recently securing the titles of Group Champions (Belly Dancer of the Universe Competition),Troupe of the Year (Belly Dancer of the Year Competition) and Ensemble of the Year (Wiggles of the West Competition), the Arabina Dance Company has performed dinner shows every weekend at the award winning Zorba’s Greek Restaurant in San Diego for the past seven years. An accomplished and popular dance soloist, Vilia has performed at numerous professional venues throughout Southern California. She spent six years as a principal dancer with the Lebanese dance company Raks El Anwar, directed by Middle Eastern Dance Hall of Fame inductee, Morwenna Assaf and was a featured instructor at Arabian Fest in Guadalajara, Mexico. Vilia was also two-time winner of the Belly Dance Evolution competition through which she was selected by Jillina (former artistic director of the Belly Dance Super Stars) to perform in her Belly Dance Evolution theatre show debut in Los Angeles and New York City. Currently studying with the renowned Suhaila Salimpour, Vilia has recently achieved Level 4 certification in the Suhaila Salimpour format and Level 3 certification in the Jamila Salimpour format through which she continuously strives to improve her dance and teaching technique. Vilia has been honored to perform with the Bal Anat Dance Company on multiple occasions and will be teaching and performing with them in their European debut which will take place in Belgium in the Fall of 2016! A former student and instructor of ballet, tap and jazz dance styles,Vilia’s primary goal is to use every facet of her dance expertise and extensive training to expose,educate and entertain others in the art of Middle Eastern Dance.
