Chris Padilla

Chris PadillaChris Padilla is an acclaimed saxophonist and music educator with a breadth of experience performing as a soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble member. He has been hailed for the “drama” in his interpretations and virtuosity in his playing. Currently, Padilla has performed with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, the Density512 Chamber Orchestra, and Saxophone Ensemble. A strong advocate for chamber music, he is also a founding member of MODUS, a saxophone quartet comprised of fellow artists who met at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. Most recently in 2017, Padilla was selected as a semi-finalist in the William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition. In 2015, Padilla received honorable mention in the Yamaha Young Performing Artists competition. He was also selected as honorable mention in the University of North Texas Wind Studies Concerto Competition.
Padilla’s playing can be heard on multiple CDs released on the GIA Music Label. WhileChris Padilla performing under the baton of Eugene Corporon with the University of North Texas Wind Symphony, he has recorded works for the albums Canvases, Offerings, Pathways, and Portals. Padilla continues to expand his scope through studies with leading pedagogues in the US and Europe. Padilla has been featured in masterclass performances lead by Julia Nolan, Debra RIchtmeyer, Eugene Rousseau, and the H2 Saxophone Quartet. An experienced educator, Padilla has worked with students of all ages from beginner to adult learner. His guiding principles in lessons include empowering students to independently lead their own learning, instilling the expressive nature of creating music, and fostering lifelong skills through the study of performance. Padilla’s students have placed in statewide competitions.
Padilla currently studies at the University of Texas at Austin – Butler School of Music, where he is pursuing a Master of Music degree in Saxophone Performance under the Chris Padillaguidance of Dr. Stephen Page. He completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education at the University of North Texas while studying saxophone with Dr. Eric Nestler, graduating summa cum laude. Additional work includes the Université Européenne de Saxophone in Gap, France. Padilla’s professional memberships include Texas Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Mu Phi Epsilon, and the North American Saxophone Alliance.
