Inspired and founded in 2003 by Marta Quinn, Cahersiveen features a repertoire ranging from simple old Irish songs and American folk classics to hard-driving, edgy, Scottish and Irish jigs and reels, performed by classically trained musicians.
The band takes its name from the town of Cahersiveen. Capital of the Iveragh Peninsula and located along the Ring of Kerry in County Kerry, Ireland, Cahersiveen lies beside the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by rivers, lakes, mountains and ancient archaeological sites.
Upon invitation, the band performed at the annual 2006 international Festival for Music and the Arts in Ireland, and recorded its first CD thereafter. The band’s second CD was released for sale in March 2014, and is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, and CDBaby. In April 2018, Cahersiveen performed nationally at The Grand Theater in Keokuk, Iowa. Regional performance venues include the Corin Courtyard at the Mondavi Center, UC Davis, Sierra College, Sacramento’s Second Saturday Art Walk, Patrick Mulvaney’s St. Patrick’s Day Pig Roast, Grass Valley’s Renaissance Fair, local pubs, country clubs, churches, private fundraising events and parties. Cahersiveen performs regularly on the Delta King in Old Sacramento and in Woodland at Father Paddy’s Irish Public House. Cahersiveen ranks among the top Celtic bands in Northern California.
Founded in 2003 and directed by Marta Quinn, Cahersiveen ranks among the top Celtic traditional bands in the Sacramento region. Classically trained on piano since the age of 8, Marta has taught children and adults on the piano for over 30 years. She has performed with Cahersiveen in local Celtic festivals, pubs, churches, and at private events; and upon invitation, performed internationally at the annual Cahersiveen Festival for Music and the Arts in County Kerry, Ireland. In addition to performing with Cahersiveen in the USA, Marta has performed in many pubs with many bands throughout Ireland, located in Dublin (O’Donoghue’s), Kerry, Derry, Connemara, Clare, Cork and Donegal, She has also performed in Scotland on the Isle of Islay, in Brittany, and in Canada on Cape Breton. Marta plays the bodhran, accordion, spoons, concertina and piano. Marta enjoys traveling abroad with her bodhran, spoons, and after eating her wheaties, her piano.
Ingrid Peters is a unique violinist and vocalist who has built an impressive career in music performance, composition, improvisation, and education.
Classically trained since the age of 3, Ingrid has been involved in orchestras and musical productions her whole life. She is currently a member of the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra & Opera and the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra.
In addition to classical violin, Ingrid enjoys playing with many local bands in the Sacramento area. In addition to fiddle and vocals with the Celtic Band Cahersiveen, Ingrid is the founding member and leader of the Sacramento Philharmonic Jazz Trio, as well as the jazz group “Veranda Swing”.
Dr. Cathie Apple is an established presence in the Sacramento music scene. She is a founding member of Citywater new music ensemble, performs regularly in the Music at Noon Concert Series and at the Festival for New American Music, and plays with the Sacramento Baroque Soloists, Lady of the Lake, Camerata Capistrano, Kirtan Band Radiant Friend, and of course, Cahersiveen. In addition to maintaining a full performing and private teaching schedule, Cathie is a yoga instructor and personal trainer, and does CrossFit, triathlons, and obstacle course races. To recharge her batteries, she takes off on long backpacking trips into the wilderness. Favorite trips include trekking the Annapurna Circuit in the Himalayas and walking the entire John Muir Trail.
Cellist Timothy Stanley is a performing artist and teacher living in the Sacramento area. He is a graduate of University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelors in music and received his Masters in Music from Sacramento State University. His primary teachers were Dr. Andrew Smith and Andy Luchansky. Since his completion of University, Timothy has been teaching privately in Sacramento and Davis. He is a senior teacher with the Sacramento State String Project, a not-for-profit which provides low cost music instruction to Sacramento elementary school children. As a performer, Timothy plays with numerous local symphonies and orchestras as well as area baroque ensembles. Timothy is a founding member of Citywater, a contemporary music ensemble, and Ensemble Confluentes, a baroque quartet.
Gabe Stivala performs a variety of musical styles including jazz, folk tango, and celtic. Gabe’s most recent work is with Cahersiveen, Veranda Swing, the Sacramento Philharmonic Jazz Trio, saxophonist Ali Sakkal, violinist/vocalist Ingrid Peters, bassist Craig Kleinman, Gerry Pineda, Alex Reiff, Mark Angeles, and the revered Monastic Imbued 3+1. Gabe is a talented guitarist whose influences include Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Branford Marsalis, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, and Bill Frisell.
