Joel Pierce

Joel PierceJoel is a pianist, organist, conductor, and private piano instructor from Vail, Arizona. His first and most influential piano teacher was his grandmother, and when he was fourteen years old he began his first job, sharing his gifts with his church. While his repertoire has grown over the years, he has always maintained a position as a minister of music in churches. As a young man, Joel’s interest in music was not limited to the piano; he sang with the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus and the Arizona All-State Choir. Joel also played the violin with the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra and Tucson Junior Strings. The piano always stood out as his primary passion, and after studying with Dr. Paula Fan at the University of Arizona, he obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance in 2012. His pianistic experience includes genres such as classical, jazz, rock and roll, vocal, instrumental, traditional and contemporary Christian music, and musical theatre. He has an avid passion for creating music and collaborating with fellow performers.
Currently, Joel is the director of music and handbells, and organist at Valley Presbyterian Church. He is also the pianist, organist and director of the Celtic Chorale at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, and he leads the contemporary worship service at RisenEureka Savior Lutheran Church. He also serves as the organist for the Green Valley Community Chorus. Joel plays regularly for musical theatre productions put on by the Arizona Repertory Theatre at the University of Arizona, and several other productions in the Tucson area, and he is a regular piano and harpsichord substitute for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. He finds joy in teaching a healthy and vibrant piano studio (ages 6 – 21) in the Vail area. Joel obtained a Master’s degree in organ performance and sacred music from the Fred Fox School of Music, under the guidance of Dr. Pamela Decker.
