Yukiko Miyawaki

Yukiko Miyawaki, originally from Kobe, Japan began training as a gymnast at an early age and was a member of the Japanese Junior Gymnastics Team for six years. After graduating from Konan Women’s University as an English major, she worked briefly for the Mitsubishi Bank in Osaka. But she started realizing about how Japanese society works and she didn’t feel any freedom in her life, so decided to move to Toronto and found her passion in dance, so studied ballet and jazz for two years. She returned to Japan and began her professional career working as a stage dancer at Tokyo Disneyland. Yukiko went on to produce dance shows in Tokyo, before deciding to pursue her career in New York City. She became a student of the Peridance Center International Program, which provided her with training in various genres of dance, including ballet, modern, theater dance, jazz, and hip hop. While studying at Peridance, Yukiko had the opportunity to work with various choreographers in NYC and toured with dance companies around the United States and Brazil. Yukiko’s segue into acting was largely influenced by her training and performance opportunities in the United States. She studied acting with Terry Schreiber at T. Schreiber Studio and many other workshops in New York City. Her first professional booking as an actress was a voice over for Thompson Reuter. Yukiko has appeared on All My Children and in American and Japanese commercials. Because of her advantage of a bilingual actress, she has worked on such films as Do You Like My Basement, 8:46, Room 666, and others as a Japanese American. She auditioned for lead roles in the new FOX film starring Hugh Jackman, and The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Hauki Murakami. In addition to dancing and acting, Yukiko has modeled for many print ads and various photographers. She has a unique experience in New York as a Japanese woman, who wants to get out of “Shy Japanese”. And now she is writing web series about it.
