Alexander Harvie

Alex Harvie has painted his way up through the crowds with his unhindered work ethic, consistent quality, and outgoing personality. His professional career as an artist began in 2005, after graduating LSU with a Bachelors of Fine Arts. He started out doing pop up shows and helping define an art scene in Baton Rouge, IN 2006 he began painting live at charity events and other parties-bringing his signature style to all the would watch. In 2009, Harvie moved to New Orleans with his artist-wife Amy (ceramicist and painter.) Together they started Harvie Ventures in 2011. In 2013, he was featured on TLC’s Four Weddings, which brought large acclaim to the wedding painting industry. Harvie has been an important member of the New Orleans art scene; painting live for some of the most exclusive events in and outside the city, such as the NBA All Star Ball, NOMA Curators Club, Mardi Gras parades and balls, hotel openings, WWL and WGNO TV, Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, Buku Fest, Wakarusa Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Final Four Fest, YMCA 100th Anniversary Party, and of course, weddings! Currently he averages about 80 live paintings a year all over the world. “If ‘life is a party, I wanna paint it!” Over the years, Harvie has painted thousands of studio pantings as well. These range from representational scenes to complete abstractions, all in the the thick-textured-“Harvie style”. He also paints multiple custom commissions, a recent highlight being a 14 ft x 8.5 ft painting titled “Horse Power” for Saints owners Gayle and Tom Benson. Murals have also found a place in Harvie’s arsenal. Recently he completed a 30 ft x 25 ft mural with the Wall Project in Baton Rouge depicting one of his “Floating Swamp” scenes. When not painting live, Harvie enjoys working in his art studio in central city on his “experimental projects”, — “I try to always have a series in progress in the studio that hasn’t yet been released to the public. If I’m not pushing myself and doing more than I think I can handle, then I don’t feel like I’m working hard enough lol!” Harvie says. “I’m always testing my limits. How else can one grow to become a better artist?”
