This past June was my 10th year providing makeup and brow services. Where does the time go?! My love for beauty and makeup began when I was a little girl. My family use to tease me since I was the only little girl around who would carry of copy of Elle and Vogue magazine. Looking back, it was quite funny since the magazines were so much bigger than I was at the time. I have always been passionate about fashion and beauty and while in high school my plan was to graduate and attend FIT. Unfortunately, for me, my sketch abilities were in line with those of someone in kindergarten and after doing some soul searching, I decided that the direction might not be the best for me. A few years later, while attending NYC Fashion Week and was backstage before one of the shows. I was amazed by the amount of chaos and creativity. It was at that moment that I knew that I wanted and had to be a part of this industry, but the question was in which aspect? So there I was. I couldn’t sketch, and being that I am about 5’3” I was clearly too short to be a model. But then, a light bulb turned on – I wanted to be a makeup artist. But not just any makeup artist… a MAC makeup artist. So that’s what I did. In what seemed like an instant, I gave up what I was working toward and began traveling a diverse path to learn and craft my skills. I started providing services in 2002 and as embarrassing as it is to say, modern day pinups were my inspiration (laugh, but it was popular that year!). Celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra and supermodel Linda Engelivista were the ones I closely followed and my technique would not be what it is today without them. During that time, the cat eye was key and even today, they secretly request this technique but downplayed differently. And let’s not forget the contour. Contour… contour… contour. Everyone needs just as much cheek sculpture as they do eyebrows. Perky cheekbones create dramatic eyes and give you that infamous sexy appeal. And what woman doesn’t want to feel that? So here we are, 10 years later. I am blessed to say that I have found something that I love and am passionate about. The feeling that I get when a client looks into the mirror after a session and sees how gorgeous they look is the ultimate payoff and never gets old. Throughout the years I have always challenged myself and continued to learn the latest techniques and will do so for as long as I am in this field.
