The first time you hear Nashville based singer-songwriter Marla, you’ll wonder where the pop/rock influenced country sound and sincere sweeping choruses come from. You’ll quickly discover that her infectiously honest music can go from booming, urban-infused tracks to powerful, earnest ballads. Marla is fearless in sound and lyrics, but that was tirelessly earned.
Growing up an hour from NYC in Connecticut, Marla fell in love with creatively truthful storytelling and sonically bold songs. She began singing and performing at the age of four and developed a love for piano and guitar along the way. Her passion for her artistry has been driven by her love for performing and her ability to command the stage. It comes as no surprise that she notes a wide array of powerhouse influences such as Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Fleetwood Mac and George Strait.
Leaving the East Coast at age 17 to head to Belmont University in Nashville, Marla began to embrace the fact that her brand of songwriting didn’t quite fit into any of the standard Nashville boxes. She has spent her time in Nashville cultivating her songwriting and vocal craft by studying the art of country music, the music she fell in love with as a child, while honoring her desire to be sonically innovative. By the time she was 21, Marla released three EPs, all of which were featured on iTunes, and quickly allowed her to garner a devoted fan base, reaching people as far away as Australia. She also developed a fan base by spending time on the road playing at various colleges and universities around the country. It wasn’t long before Nashville began to take notice, as she has shared the stage with the likes of Chuck Wicks, Kix Brooks, and Lorrie Morgan.
Marla spent the last few years writing and developing her team, which includes Grammy-nominated producer Brad Hill (Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne) and upcoming producer/songwriter Joe Fox. Her first single, “Try Telling My Heart That,” was featured on the mega popular ‘Wild Country’ playlist on Spotify and on the ‘Hot Tracks’ playlist on Apple Music, along with over 400 others. The song already has over 200,000 streams just on Spotify alone. The music video for “Try Telling My Heart That’ debuted on CMT in CMT’s Artist Discovery program.
She is set to release her heartbreak fueled EP this Summer, which features all songs she co-wrote and co-produced. This project has already started to catch Nashville’s attention. “I have never been so proud of a body of work of mine as I am of this record,” says Marla. “These songs are powered by an immense amount of heart and thought and it has been exhilarating performing them for new audiences and experiencing the reaction.”
