Carol Lundeen grew up in Paynesville, MN where she first realized her love for art. Being a preachers kid, she spent a lot of time sitting in the pews drawing the backs of people’s heads during her father’s sermons. She also enjoyed creating her own comic books. After high school, she went on to get her B.A. in Art at Northwest Nazarene College (now a university) in Nampa, ID. Returning to Minnesota, Carol spent 6 years in the advertising business and decided the cut throat atmosphere was not for her. She went completely away from her art and enjoyed several years as a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist in the Minneapolis area. In 1996, she met the man of her dreams, Steve, whom she married in 1997. She now resides with her family in the rural area of Dassel, MN. The birth of their daughter, Sara, was the spark that put Carol back onto her art journey. She began producing pen and ink stipple drawings of babies which she sold nationally to doctors, hospitals and clinics. After 9 years, however, the strain of drawing dots forced Carol to move into a different medium that wasn’t as taxing on her eyes. Remembering how she appreciated oil painting and scratchboard in high school, Carol decided to turn her abilities towards the two mediums. Wanting to find someone willing to teach her the “ropes” about landscape painting, Carol found a wonderful mentor in Robert Hagberg….a nationally known landscape artist and signature member of Oil Painters of America. She continues to study under Robert who has completely changed her technique to a more representational style. In June of 2014, Carol completed 6 months of study with Colorado landscape artist, Jay Moore. She has also studied with Terry Isaac, Rock Newcomb, Marc Hanson and most recently, Jan Martin McGuire. As her talent has progressed, she has entered national shows and competitions including Oil Painters of America, Salon International, American Plains Artists, Artists of the Plains and was a finalist in Artist Magazine in the animal division. Carol’s work is currently available at her studio, Lundeen Artwork in Dassel, MN.
