Gerardo Jose Ortega

Gerardo Ortega began vocal studies in his native New Orleans, Louisiana at Loyola University and later in Miami, Fl at New World School of the Arts. He most recently appeared as the Tenor Soloist in Ramírez’s Misa Criolla for the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami, the Younger Brother in Heggie’s Dead Man Walking and the Schoolmaster in Janácek’s The Cunning Little Vixen for Miami Summer Music Festival, Viva la Zarzuela! for Vero Beach Opera, Noche de Zarzuela with the Hispanic American Lyric Theatre, Rossini’s Stabat Mater as the Tenor Soloist with Barry Chamber Group, and Claussen’s A New Creation as the Tenor Soloist with the Maryville Orchestra. Gerardo’s stage credits include the title role of Faust with Coral Gables Opera, Nemorino from Donizetti’s l’Elisir d’Amore with NWSA, Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff and the Italian Singer in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier with Harrower Opera, Parpignol in La Boheme and Dombé in Lakmé with the Florida Grand Opera, and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with the Riuniti Opera. Gerardo is a Gerardo Jose Ortegarecurring performer for the Trinity Artists Concert Series in New Orleans, La, and the Church at Highland and Ponce Concert Series of Atlanta, Ga.
As of the last year, Mr. Ortega debuted in Carnegie Hall with the New York Lyric Opera Theatre as a National Finalist competitor and organized fundraisers featuring classical music benefitting the homeless community of Miami, Susan B. Komen in the Fight Against Breast Cancer, UM Health Crohns’ and Collitis Foundation, and HIV/AIDS Awareness and Research with the Downtowner Concert Series. Gerardo is the Artistic Administrator of the Downtowner Concert Series and a part of the Music Ministry at the First United Methodist Church of Miami. Ortega has studied voice and music with critically acclaimed professionals such as Kimberly Soby, Manny Perez, Caren Levine, Alexandra Naumenko, Jenny Snyder, Paul Schwartz, and Elaine Rinaldi.
