Andy Denton

Andy Denton is currently an Artist-in-Resident at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach. Andy Denton is a sculptor and educator whose processes include welded metal and ceramics to comment on contemporary spirituality and agnosticism. Many cities across the Southeast and Midwest exhibit Denton’s outdoor sculptures and pottery. He has twice been awarded the Regional Artist Project Grant for Pitt County North Carolina. He completed a second year as Artist-In-Resident at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, FL where he taught sculptural welding and continued to make and exhibit his work. He manages the visual art building at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan during their summer camp and recently participated in a group show at the Oliver Art Center in Frankfort, MI called Lake Effect. Denton earned an BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from East Carolina University. His hobbies include running, music appreciation, and bread baking.
His sculpture practice combines metal casting, ceramics, and metal fabrication to comment on the state of contemporary spirituality through the figure. By solidifying the intangible emanations that surround living beings, his sculptures are archetypes with auras in three-dimensional form. These auras emanate from one body and connect to another and can even take on the shape of another life form, such as a spirit-animal.
