Kristin KnutsonKristin Knutson is a versatile soprano praised for her “sparkling, fluid soprano with admirable flexibility” (Opera News). Knutson’s repertoire spans the genres of opera, oratorio, and musical theater with a special commitment to the field of Early Music. Recent appearances include the role of Ariane in Haymarket Opera Company’s modern day premiere of Ariane et Bachus, Ismaele in Haymarket’s production of the Alessandro Scarlatti oratorio Agar et Ismaele esiliati, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel with Main Street Opera, ensemble in the Florentine Opera’s Venus and Adonis/Dido and Aeneas, Celia from Iolanthe in the Florentine’s An Evening of Gilbert and Sullivan III, and A Fireside Christmas with The Fireside Theater. New York City theatre credits include ensemble soloist in Candide with the New York Philharmonic, The Music Teacher by Wallace and Allen Shawn (Off-Broadway), and Limelight with the New York Musical Theater Festival. Concert appearances include Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, BWV 51 with Sonata à Quattro, Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Dominica with the Master Singers of Milwaukee, and Mozart’s Exsultate Jubilate with the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee. Additional opera appearances include Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Musetta in La Bohème, Venus in John Eccles’ The Judgment of Paris, and Fortuna/Valetto in L’incoronazione di Poppea (abridged). Knutson holds a Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School, and pursued graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music where she maintained a dual focus on classical music and musical theater. Post-graduate training includes the Vancouver Early Music Festival’s Baroque Vocal Programme, Cleveland Lute Society of America’s Vocal Program (with Ellen Hargis and Dame Emma Kirkby), Aspen Opera Theater Center, and the Chautauqua Institute.
