Art has been a huge part of Spencer Mccarty’s life for as long as he can remember. He was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, and went on to attend the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Copywriting & Art Direction for Advertising. As soon as he graduated, Spencer left everything behind and moved to Los Angeles.
Spencer was intimidated by painting for a long time, and most of his art was limited to pencil sketches on whatever medium he could find, but in his first year out in Los Angeles with lots of free time on his hands, he decided to try his hand at painting and fell in love. Feelings of loneliness caused by living in a huge city and not knowing anyone really is what drove him to dive deeper into his art. It helped pass the time, it was meditative for him, and it gave him the creative fulfillment that he craved in his life. Art is very cathartic to Spencer, it helps him work through whatever emotions and feelings are coursing through his head at the time.
He believes that we are meant to feel as much as possible during our limited time on this earth. He hopes that his work can help make you feel something. Anything. Everything.
he loves to paint inspiring, strong, beautiful, colorful portraits. Bold colors that jump off the walls with themes that draw you in and make you feel understood and not alone in the world. Wisps of hair flowing in every direction with eyes that stare right into your soul. Spencer likes to work within the existing environment of the wall and tailor his murals specifically to the location, using a color palette that works within the space and using the dimensions/directions of the wall to make a piece that feels like it was always meant to be there, just waiting to be discovered. In the end, hopefully, the energy of the mural and the energy of the wall will flow with one another, totally seamless. Being able to see the location beforehand, either in person or in detailed pictures, lets the inspiration come forward.
