Robert H. Riordan

 

Robert H. Riordan, a Wisconsin native, has performed on operatic stages across the United States as well as in Europe. This fall Robert began a residency with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City as the baritone Apprentice Artist. He will sing the Sergeant in La Bohème at the Lyric as well as in the ensemble in all four of the Lyric’s shows during the 2019-2020 season; The Abduction from the Seraglio, La Bohème, Lucia di Lammermoor, and The Shining. Alongside his residency Robert is completing an Artist Certificate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music and Dance. There he will sing the role of Norton in Rossini’s one-act opera La cambiale di matrimonio in the fall and Sid in Albert Herring this spring.
Robert attended the Aspen Music Festival in the summer of 2019, where he covered the roles of Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro and Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm in A Little Night Music, and in the summer of 2018, when he covered the role of Hermann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. His other credits at the University of Missouri-Kansas City include Frank in Die Fledermaus and Le fauteil and L’arbre in L’enfant et les sortilèges as well as covering the role of Nardo in La finta giardiniera. Robert traveled to Stara Zagora, Bulgaria in 2017 where he sang Leporello in Don Giovanni and Top in the Bulgarian premiere of The Tender Land with Varna International Opera. His credits at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities include Junius in The Rape of Lucretia, Randy Curtis in Lady in the Dark, Yamadori and the Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly, Elder McLean in Susannah, and Robin Starveling in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He also performed as Marco in Gianni Schicchi with La Musica Lirica throughout the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.
Robert has performed as a soloist in concert works such as Beethoven’s Mass in C with the Dudley Birder Chorale, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory Singers, and Fauré’s Requiem with singers of the Minnesota Chorale. He has participated in young artist programs such as the Aspen Music Festival, Varna International Opera Academy, La Musica Lirica, Opera Viva, and the Druid City Opera Workshop. He holds a Master of Music in voice performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a Bachelor of Music in voice performance and Bachelor of Science in Business in entrepreneurial management from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. He has had the opportunity to work with artists such as George Shirley, Margo Garrett, Vinson Cole, Ed Berkeley, and Kenneth Merrill. Robert currently studies with Maria Kanyova. He resides in Kansas City with his fiancé and their two dogs, Darcy and Ray.
