Rebecca Kidnie

Rebecca Kidnie is a national award-winning soprano originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota. Her lyric voice is matched only by her dynamic stage presence and the Daily Camera (Boulder, CO) stated her “early vibrancy is placed in striking relief to her achingly beautiful death scene at the end” of her Mimi in La Bohème (2013). Kidnie was a semifinalist for the Mary Jacob Singer of the Year competition at the Shreveport Opera Company as well as first place winner of the Denver Lyric Opera Guild competition in 2014. She has twice been recognized by the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions with Encouragement awards (Houston District-2011, Rocky Mountain District-2014). She received her Masters from the University of Houston as a student of Melanie Sonnenberg. There she could have been seen as La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro and Marianne Leitmetzerin in Der Rosenkavalier. In 2013 she was a young artist with the Janiec Opera Company where she performed Alice Ford in Falstaff as well as covered Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow.
A lover of new opera, Rebecca was a part of the world premiered of Speed Dating Tonight by Michael Ching as well as the world premiere for The Master by Alberto Caruso with a libretto by author Colm Toibin. She was also in the second US performances of Lucero in Daniel Catan’s Salsipuedes as well as Aunt Helen in Daron Hagen’s Amelia (a role originated by Jane Eaglen). This summer she will be a Young Artist with PORTopera in Portland, Maine performing La Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi.
