Chloe Dao


Chloe Dao discovered her love for fashion at the age of 10 while watching CNN’s Style with Elsa Klensch. She went on to pursue her passion in New York City where she earned a patternmaking degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology. After completing her education, she honed her skills in all of aspects of the industry, including design, production management and buying. In 2000, she returned to her hometown of Houston, Texas to open the Chloe DAO boutique, formerly known as LOT 8. It was her Project Runway Season 2 win that catapulted Chloe from a local immigrant designer to an international superstar living out her American dream. As a Project Runway veteran, she went on to become an Executive Producer and judge on Season 1 of the Vietnam installment in 2014.
The Dao Chloe Dao brand combines effortless sophistication with fashion forward style to produce unique eveningwear and sportswear. Chloe’s signature flair, as noted on Project Runway, demonstrates her expert understanding of women’s bodies. Her garments are carefully constructed to flatter every body type and give every woman a wardrobe that’s as one of a kind as she is. Her designs stand the test of time with ease as they are wearable year after year. In the DAO Chloe DAO, or DCD, archives you’ll find limited edition pieces and an assortment of bridal gowns that are the perfect blend of elegant and modern. In addition to the DCD line, Chloe has partnered with several businesses. This includes her collaboration with Nuo Tech, a leading supplier of computer bags and luggage. She created a line of mobile technology and travel accessories that are the ideal blend of fashion and function. She’s even extended her brand with the Simply Chloe Dao line, which was sold for three consecutive years on QVC. The line was comprised of contemporary, trendy clothing for the modern woman.
Chloe’s longtime commitment to philanthropy has played an integral role in her design and business philosophy. It is for this reason that she serves on fashion advisory boards at Houston Community College and The Art Institute. In honor of breast cancer awareness, she makes an annual contribution of a limited edition silk scarf for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority’s Think Pink Foundation. These scarves have traveled the world with Susan G. Komen’s International Race Ambassador, Dorothy Paterson. Chloe’s charitable contributions don’t stop at her designs; she also hosts several benefit shopping events for not-for-profit organizations at her Chloe Dao boutique located in Rice Village. Dress for Success, Community Cloth and TUTS are just a few of the organizations she’s collaborated with. Always ready to inspire, Chloe shared her voice as the keynote speaker at the Girls Scout’s 100th Anniversary celebration in 2011. Adding to her philanthropic efforts, in 2016 she commissioned a gown for the Salvation Army Houston Area Command’s silent auction. Proceeds from this event provided year-round assistance to those afflicted by addiction and homelessness.
Taking advantage of Houston’s cultural platform, Chloe has collaborated and left her influence with a variety of local institutions. In 2015 the Chloe Dao boutique was featured on the USA Network’s television campaign for Texas Tourism with award-winning Chef Chris Shepherd. She then designed custom aprons for Chef Shepherd as well as 44 Farms. Dominating every industry, Chloe is also no stranger to the arts community. She served as a keynote speaker at the Art Institute of Houston’s commencement ceremony in 2012. She gave a humorous and insightful account of industry experiences and made the fashion world seem a little less intimidating for the graduates. In the following years she designed custom apparel for the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, MFAH and took on the role of costume designer for the Houston Grand Opera’s production of the play Bound. Most recently, she took part in an exhibition of designs in the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston. Chloe continues to use her platform to inspire and contribute to every community she’s a part of, be it local or global.
