Stephanie J Ryan
Stephanie J. Ryan earned a BFA from the Washington University in St. Louis in 1990, and an MFA from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1997. Ryan has exhibited widely and has work included in numerous public and private collections. Currently, Ryan is a Professor of Art in Painting/Drawing at California State University, Fresno. Ryan’s word depicts the conflicted
and obscured terrain of the subconscious. Directly referencing dreams, memories, family photographs, and often appropriating imagery from pop culture, alchemy, religion, and depth psychology, Ryan’s work investigates the complexities of human relationships, with an emphasis on ‘family’ as the foundation of all conscious and unconscious behavior.
