We are Matthew and Katie Moore, the one and only, the tour de force, the Dynamic Duo, the (self-proclaimed) Zephyr skate team of wedding photographers. We are convinced that what you get with us, and what we have to offer, is unparalleled, and unlike anything else you’ll find on the market today. We are Matthew and Katie Moore. We married back in 2007 and now have two beautiful, wonderful children, Clementine and Wolfgang. Katie and I feel so fortunate to get to do what we do. When we first married we never could have dreamed where our road together would lead… Back then, I was a shift manager at Starbucks, still switching majors, and just scratching my head trying to figure out what in the world I wanted to do with my life. Meanwhile, Katie was in her first year of doing hair. But it was through marriage (and lots of hard work) that we began to discover that who we are, what we could be, and what we could do as individuals was immeasurably enhanced, magnified, and intensified when we worked together. So once things started clicking and our future began to come into focus (read: I got my crap figured out), it was only a matter of time before we would learn to apply this same principle towards business. I’m the lead photographer, and Katie is the lead stylist and assistant photographer. For over ten years now, we’ve been able to travel, make wonderful friends, make people look their absolute best, preserve memories, and make art.
To learn about me, I need to set the photographer aspect aside, and just tell you about some of the things I love and enjoy most. After all, “Where your treasure is there your heart will be also.” So, here are a few of my treasures. Mostly I love my wife, and I love my babies and look forward to spending all the time I possibly can with them! Katie seriously gets prettier every year, and, dang (every old woman in America was right), those kids are growing fast! I wish I could slow it down somehow, but it’s like trying to cup water in the palm of your hands! I tend to love and gravitate towards fairly simplistic things. I love fire pits, beer and cider, barbecuing (I kind of suck at it though), making super cool, hand-dipped beeswax taper candles, and roasting coffee beans. I attempt mediocre impersonations of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, and, besides those two, my favorite musicians are Van Morrison, Billy Joel, Doc Watson, Neil Young, and The Smashing Pumpkins. I’ll have to stop there since that list could go on for awhile!… I also listen to a lot of Celtic music, which frightens our New Jersey friends. Katie’s and my “couple’s song” is Beirut’s “Postcards from Italy,” which brings back very fond memories of our honeymoon in Rome. I love collecting vinyl records (so hipster, right?)… I love fall weather, the smell of pumpkin and pine, John Muir, hammocks, hiking, and my heart is constantly yearning for the mountains. My favorite movie is It’s a Wonderful Life, and I cry at the end (understatement) every time I watch it. This fact is kind of -bizarre, but, for some reason (and Katie gets annoyed) I always think I’m somehow responsible for starting any new fashion trends or any new slang terms on the market, which makes no sense considering I don’t care about fashion for myself at all, and avoid trendy words! While I’m at it, here are a few disinterests. I dislike hot weather, traffic, big crowds, Dave Matthews, and, most of all, mosquitos.
Day in and day out, I am awestruck watching Katie as a wife and mother, and I couldn’t imagine having anyone else by my side to navigate through this life. So, without further ado, and now that that’s been said, let’s get to the fun/weird stuff about “Quirky Katie.” She often falls asleep at night looking at Pinterest (or whatever the latest kick is) on her phone… She’ll have been in a dead sleep for two hours, and, not kidding, she’ll still be holding her phone up in the air, and her thumb will still be scrolling down the page. I swear to it! On one hand, it’s kind of cute… but, then again, it’s also kind of creepy. A few other characteristics that make Katie, well, Katie. She’s one of seven kids, the youngest of five sisters, and the girls call themselves the “Buffalo Girls.” They are led by their mother (who looks like she’s still in her 30’s), who’s considered the Chief Buffalo and they live by slogans such as “Buffalo Girls are tough as nails.” This group is comprised of some VERY strong personalities, but, of all of the strong personalities and strong opinions that run rampant amongst the female side of her family, I’ll just say that Katie holds her own. When we travel to a new and beautiful place, it will take all of ten seconds before Katie gets really chatty and starts casting THE vision for what our lives would look like if we lived there. If we get a wedding inquiry from somewhere beautiful, like near the Mediterranean Sea for example, she’ll have the whole trip planned, before I’ve even replied to the inquiry or know if the numbers will work! But, that’s Katie. She’s a dreamer, she’s a doer, she’s fun, smart, beautiful, she’s hilarious, she’s a ride and the perfect counterpart for me! She’s an artistic genius and can figure out how to do just about anything by looking at it. She is insanely productive, too. I.e.-, if we decided to clean out the garage- what would take me four days to complete, she could do in four hours- Although, you have to watch her closely with that sort of thing. One time after we married, she threw away two of my paychecks (when I worked at Starbucks) and our marriage license without even realizing it. Fortunately we have similar music tastes. She grew up listening to tons of classic rock and has been on a Cat Stevens kick for a year now. Her favorite movie is Royal Tenenbaums; she flip flops between having blond hair and red hair; and she eats ice cream with a baby spoon.
