Douglas W CoyleDouglas W Coyle is a Dallas visual artist who works with paint, encaustic, charcoal and other media on paper, canvas and wood. Trained in oil, acrylic and water color painting, Douglas draws on this education to provide guidance while experimenting with new techniques and mediums. These explorations have recently produced large, dramatic panels with complex histories of painting, sanding and scraping. The art is organic, alive, where bold design and vibrant colors are revealed in subtle layers.
Art to Douglas is a reflection of mood, energy, and recognition — whether of a time, place, person, object or passion. His journey as an artist started after he attended the opening of the Tate Modern London in 2000 where he had the privilege to view theDouglas W Coyle Mark Rothko Seagram Building series. Although his early works were mostly still life, he always enjoyed the dramatic sense of color in works by artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe. Later, his art education exposed him to the modern masters such as Richard Diebenkorn and Frank Stella. Through extensive exposure to contemporary art domestically and in Europe, his tastes and interests changed and evolved into a contemporary reworking of these influences with an energetic and fresh edge.
