Christine Sciortino

Christine SciortinoI’ve always been fascinated by transformation. I had no idea that hours of playing dress-up, giving my Barbies haircuts, and painting my brother’s face with stolen lipstick would someday turn into a career, but here I am. I consider myself a visual storyteller. I tell most of my stories through characters. When you style a model’s hair and makeup, her energy changes – she stands in a whole new way, as if her spirit was inspired by something new. When you transform an actor, he becomes the character he is portraying, bringing the whole narrative to life. It is this process that gets me excited.
While earning my degree at New York University, I had the opportunity to study Art History and Film in Paris, Costume Design in Prague, and Fashion Illustration at both Parsons the New School for Design and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Just in case that wasn’t enough school, I moved back to my hometown of Chicago to get my Cosmetology license at Pivot Point Academy where I specialized in men’s grooming and ethnic hair. I was trained in makeup artistry by top-selling brands MAC Cosmetics and Bare Minerals and received expert training inChristine Sciortino special effects makeup at NYU.
I am currently Chicago-based where I am a member of the IATSE Motion Picture Studio Mechanics Union, Local #476. I am lucky enough to travel to New York, LA, Atlanta, and San Fransisco for work as well! I also am a professor in the School of Cinema and Television Arts at Columbia College Chicago where I started the curriculum for Cinema Makeup and love influencing the next generation of makeup artists and filmmakers! I’ve been fortunate enough to have some amazing experience and learn from so many talented artists, constantly working on my craft. If you look around the site, you’ll find pictures and video of some of this work and hopefully learn a little bit more about me.
