The eclectic sounds of StellaRising have risen out of the hard work, experience and a blending of the natural talents of singer/songwriter Kristi Ormand and lead guitarist/songwriter Tony Oliver-Paull. Formed in 2009, the pair’s acoustic sound has quickly made its mark on audiences and musicians alike in the Charlotte and surrounding areas. Kristi’s musical background began at a young age and after professional training, she decided her love for music superseded anything else. After playing in several venues and private parties around the Charlotte area, Kristi began focusing on songwriting, drawing from her surroundings and personal experiences to inspire her. After meeting with Mike Graci to record her new songs, he introduced her to lead guitarist Tony Oliver-Paull. Kristi and Tony immediately began to focus on songwriting as a group. With over a decade of experience, Tony’s passion for music lead him to earn a degree in Music Performance at Winthrop University. While attending, he focused his studies on jazz and classical guitar. With musical influences such as The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Coltrane, Tony’s musical style is continuously evolving and has quickly proved to be perfectly suited for StellaRising. Just a few short months later they recorded “Hard to Breathe” and “This Is Who I Want To Be” at the Knothole Recording Studio in Waxhaw, NC with help from bassist, Chris Revels and drummer, Mike Graci. The band’s debut album was released in the fall of 2011, and they are currently working on their next album.
