Diego Suárez

Born on December 21, 1992 in San José, Costa Rica, Diego began his piano studies at the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica when he was 8 years old. During this period of basic studies, he was invited by international organizations like ISME (International Society for Music Education) and FLADEM (Latin-American Forum for Musical Education) to give recitals at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma in Mexico D.F. (2003); at the Universidad Andres Bello in Santiago, Chile (2003); at the Auditorium in Tenerife, Spain (2004), and at the Teatro Manzoni in Bologna, Italy (2008). In 2006, he won the Third Prize with Honorable Mention in the Maria Clara Cullell International Piano Competition in San Jose, Costa Rica. In 2008, his graduation recital from Pre-University program at the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica received the highest grade with an Honorable Mention from the jury.
He graduated at age 15 from High School in 2008, under a Home School Program from the Ministry of Public Education in Costa Rica, which allowed him to practice piano intensely. In 2011, Diego started his university career in the United States at the College of Charleston, S.C. with a full scholarship from the Kite Foundation and the School of the Arts. He was one of the principal artists for the 2010 Chopin Celebration Cycle and the 2011 Liszt Cycle presented by the University of Costa Rica, performing the Twenty-four Etudes by Chopin and Liszt’s Twelve Transcendental Etudes, respectively.
In 2012, his first CD was released under Cougar Classics with the Twelve Transcendental Etudes by Liszt. He had an outstanding participation at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 in Charleston, S.C.
