Michelle Repella

A native New Yorker, Michelle Repella began her journey as a classical singer at the age of 12 when she joined the choristers at St. Bartholomew’s Church, NYC. Her vocal talent and musical aptitude were quickly recognized to be well beyond her age, and she frequently began singing with the adult choir of St. Bart’s. A quick study and an increasingly adept student of theory, Michelle was enrolled at LaGuardia High School, where she joined many choirs both in and out of school, Her musical leanings took her to fulfill an undergraduate degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J., where she majored in both vocal studies and music education. During this time, Michelle sang with some of the leading orchestras in the world, including the Dresden and New York Philharmonics, and under the batons of some of the world’s finest conductors. It was here that her love of teaching was cemented, and she continued to educate both in the classroom and privately.
While her passions in college laid mainly in performing choral music, Michelle was frequently scouted as a soloist and was introduced to the wider solo classical and operatic repertoire. Although she possesses a large instrument, she was found to be adept at singing in many periods’ styles, ranging from the clean sounds of renaissance polyphony, to more expressive and full sounds of Romantic and Contemporary opera and symphonic works. Past performances have included the soprano soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Haydn’s Mass in B Minor, Dubois’ Seven Last Words, Mozart’s Mass in D Major, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Messe Solenelle, Vivaldi’s Gloria in D Major, Saint Saens’ Christmas Oratorio, and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. A frequent recitalist, she has given concert at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City, Trinity New Haven in New Haven, CT, St. Mary the Virgin in New York City, and Holy Trinity RC Church in New York City. She also gave a joint recital with organist Dr. Andrew Yeargin at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC.
