Madelyn Hasebein

Madelyn Hasebein studied piano from age 5 to 16 but did not begin to study voice until her undergraduate career at the age of 18. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy and Vocal Performance (with a minor in Psychology) from Cleveland State University in 2018. As a member of Chorale at CSU, Madelyn performed several solos in various choral works including Aaron Copland’s In the Beginning under the direction of CSU’s Director of Choruses, Dr. Brian Bailey. She additionally performed in several scenes for the university’s Opera Workshop in the roles of Susanna from Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Mercedes from Bizet’s Carmen, Fiordiligi from Mozart’s Cosí fan Tutte, and Cenerentola in the finale of Rossini’s La Cenerentola. Madelyn was selected as the Soprano Soloist for the Cleveland Messiah Chorus for the 2016, 2017, 2018, and the upcoming 2019 seasons. Her concert works include Alban Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder, Anton Heiller’s Zwei Gesänge as part of the Ars Organi Concert Series in Cleveland Heights, OH, Mozart’s Requiem with Cleveland State University Chorus and Orchestra, and Poulenc’s Gloria with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra and Choral Arts Cleveland Chorus. She is an alto soloist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights, and has worked with the Cleveland Chamber Choir as well as other various choral groups in the Greater Cleveland area.
Madelyn has participated in the premieres of solo, choral, and ensemble works including Formare by Cenk Ergun, Labyrinths by Frank Wiley, From an Overlook by Preston Masters, and The Gauntlet by Sxip Shirey at the Cleveland Museum of Arts’s SOLSTICE annual event in June of 2018. She continues to work with composers in various premieres, and zill premiere her first choral work at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in November 2019.
In addition to performance, Madelyn composes and arranges instrumental and vocal works. She is the Founder of Cleveland State University’s first a cappella group, Vocal Vikings, established in 2015. Madelyn is a certified Music Therapist [MT-BC] and is trained in Neurologic Music Therapy [NMT]. She currently works as a music therapist with Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood, OH, and as a music therapy independent contractor and voice and piano private instructor at Willow Arts & Wellness Center in Westlake, OH, Royalton Music Center in North Royalton, OH, Orange City School District and Stagecrafters theater musical director in Orange, OH, and as a Lower School Piano teacher at University Schools in Cleveland Heights, OH.
