Black Pearl Band NM is a New Mexico variety (horn driven) band performing R & B, Old School, Top 40, Country, Rancheras, Cumbia’s, and Waltz’. The band is comprised of 9 musicians.
Ruben Barreras Jr, plays alto/ tenor saxaphone, sings background vocals (some lead), and is the leader of Black Pearl Band NM. Ruben started playing saxaphone at the age of ten and he also plays accordian, bass guitar, guitar, trumpet, and keyboard. Ruben has played with several New Mexico bands such as Los Musicos De Cristo, Expression, The Albuquerque Police Department band “The Force”, and Latin Society. Ruben’s musical influences include father Ruben Barreras Sr.( Musicos De Cristo), George Strait, Little Joe, Jimmy Edwards, Kool and the Gang, and KC and the Sunshine Band.
Rafael Nunez plays guitar and sings lead and background vocals. Thomas Mares Jr. plays drums and percussion. Michael Rascon sings lead and background vocals. Tony Chavez plays lead trumpet and sings background vocals. Nate Ashbaugh plays trombone and sings background. Paul Marquez plays alto, baritone, and tenor saxophone. Martin Valdez play bass guitar.
