Valerie Saint Martin

Valerie Saint Martin is a French born harpist and singer based in Santa Barbara, California. She started her musical journey at the age of eight, learning to play the harp at the Music Conservatoire of Pau, in the Pyrenees where she grew up and then in Paris at the C.N.R of St Maur. Later she moved to the exciting and culturally rich city of London. Now living in beautiful Santa Barbara since 2013, she has performed in many contrasting venues, such as Santa Barbara’s Old Mission, The Music Academy of the West, The Granada and Lobero Theatres as well as on the beach! Music has always been a very important part of her life, sometimes more singing and sometimes more harp.
Although trained as a classical musician, she enjoys playing many different styles of music such as jazz standards and popular songs. Valerie Saint Martin has sung in French, Italian, German, English and Czech. Her operatic roles include Dido (Purcell), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Marcellina (Le Nozze) and Mercedes (Carmen) and she has given many recitals in France and in the UK. Valerie Saint Martin made her professional singing debuts in the chorus of the Theatre Musical de Paris – Chatelet – under the direction of conductors such as J.E. Gardiner, E.P. Salonen, D. Barenboim, S. Rattle and A. Pappano with stage producers such as P. Chereau, L. Bondy and P. Strosser. She studied voice and interpretation under the French baritone Robert Massard and the British bass Malcolm King and the vocal coaches Rita Loving and Janine Reiss. Valerie Saint Martin holds a gold medal in sight reading, chamber music, harp and voice performance.
