Dr. Brandon Bascom
Dr. Brandon Bascom a native of Provo, Utah, began piano lessons at the age of three with Irene Peery. At the age of six he began studying with Dr. David Glen Hatch. Brandon soloed with his first symphony, the Murray (Utah) Symphony at the age of eight. In 1991 he was selected to appear in the Gina Bachauer Recitals Around the Towne in Salt Lake City. He gave a solo recital in The Temple Square Concert Series in 1991 and 1993. In 1997, Brandon was a Utah Music Educators Association All State Selection. During the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Brandon again performed a solo recital at Temple Square in the Assembly Hall. Brandon has won numerous festivals and competitions, including First Prize at the National Federation Music Club Utah State in 2003, NFMC Regional Finalist in 2003 and a NFMC National Contestant in 2003. He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras including the Brigham Young University Philharmonic Orchestra. Brandon has been the recipient of scholarships at Utah State University, Brigham Young University, The University of Michigan and The University of Iowa. Brandon served an L.D.S. mission in the New York, New York North Mission.
Brandon earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young University in August 2004. He has performed in several masterclasses with renowned artists such as Marian Han, David Dubal and Martin Jones. In 2006, Brandon completed his Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at The Manhattan School of Music in New York City. In 2008, Brandon earned another Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Michigan. In 2012, Brandon received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Iowa, where he was the recipient of a T. Anne Cleary International Dissertation Research Fellowship for his dissertation on József Gát, and an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Brandon has maintained his own private studio teaching students since 2002. He has studied with Dr. Uriel Tsachor, Christopher Harding, Arkady Aronov, Dr. Irene Peery-Fox, Dr. Ralph van der Beek, Gary Amano, Dr. David Glen Hatch, and Piano Pedagogy with Dr. Carol Aicher, Dr. John Ellis and Dr. Alan Huckleberry. Brandon enjoys arranging songs and hymns for the piano. Dr. Bascom previously taught at Brigham Young University-Idaho for three years. Brandon, his wife Lindsey and their sons Kurt, Luke, Clark and daughter Grace currently reside in California, where Brandon is a Professor of Piano at Fresno City College.
