Anna Meyer

Anna Meyer holds a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University where she studied with Marina Piccinini and a BM in Flute Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Bradley Garner, Randy Bowman and Jack Wellbaum. She was a graduate of the International Meisterkurse für Musik Zürich in 2003 and 2004, has been a semi-finalist in several national competitions, including the National Flute Association Piccolo Artist Competition, the Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition (Albuquerque, NM), and the Flute Talk Competition (Chicago, IL). Twice, Mrs. Meyer was a winner of the National Flute Association’s Masterclass Performer’s Competition.
In 1998, Mrs. Meyer won the United States Air Force Band’s Colonel George S. Howard Young Artist Competition and performed as a soloist with the band under direction of the legendary Maestro Frederick Fennell. Mrs. Meyer has studied with some of the best flutists in the nation including principally Marina Piccinini, Dr. Bradley Garner, Jack Wellbaum, Dr. Tadeu Coelho, Toshiko Kohno, and Debra Wendells Cross. She has participated in masterclasses or private lessons with Randy Bowman, Joshua Smith, Jean-Michael Tanguy, Jill Felber, Keith Underwood, Trudy Kane, Michael Parloff, Jim Walker, Elizabeth Rowe, Jeanne Baxtresser, and Julius Baker. From 2007-2011, Mrs. Meyer served as Instructor of Flute at Mercyhurst College, Erie, PA, as well as chamber music coach and orchestral excerpts clinician.
She has held the positions of Principal Flutist of the Erie Chamber Orchestra and Second Flute with the Canton Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Meyer has been teaching privately for 16 years. She enjoys a full studio of students ranging in abilities from beginner to adult. She is respected by her students not only for her high quality of teaching, but also for her ability to direct each student according to their individual talents and abilities. Mrs. Meyer is the Founder and Director of Flauto Musicale, an annual daylong flute clinic for flutists of all ages. The clinic provides masterclass performance and competition opportunities, recitals, and other instruction such as body awareness when performing, music theory, and how to practice efficiently (www.aemeyer.com/flauto).
She collaborates often with organist and husband Erik Meyer and is active as a recital soloist with him as well as by herself or in chamber group situations. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society and lives in the Philadelphia area.
Erik Meyer

Erik Meyer is an all-around musician who likes to keep busy and get his hands dirty. From Collingswood, NJ, he studied piano with David Bryant and organ with J. Bert Carlson, later earning his music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, studying with Donald Sutherland. He has performed over 100 Organ concerts throughout the US and Europe, as well as flute & organ recitals with his wife, Anna. He is music director at the Church of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Philadelphia, where he oversees a large choral and instrumental program. Previously he was the artistic director of the Luther Memorial Concert Series, created a Bach Festival, and taught at Mercyhurst University. His compositions are published by Augsburg Fortress, St. James Press, Lorenz, and MusicSpoke. He is the composer of the new Johns Hopkins University school song, and recently won composition awards from FredBrass, the Twin Cities AGO, Presbyterian Association of Musicians, and the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians. You might also see him on or off stage with the Newtown Arts Theater, playing trombone in the Jenkintown Community band, violin in the Abington Symphony, or on really bad days, accordion in his living room.
