Gale Gassiot
Gale Gassiot is an Austin-based artist. Her style is whimsical and fluid suggesting dream-like imagery. Her current work consists primarily of watercolor, glass mosaic, and teaching. Gale is a prolific and resourceful artist.
Gale’s commissioned work has sold to clients such as Mary Kay Cosmetics, the Mexican Government, J.B. Hunt, Frost Brothers, Scholtzsky’s, Eagle’s Knobb Lodge, Liase Adzer, Neiman Marcos, The Longevity and Wellness Center of South Texas and private clientele throughout the United States and in Mexico, Australia, Canada and Japan. Gale teaches privately and at art centers throughout Texas and has conducted traveling workshops to Mexico.
Gale founded Gassiot on Fabric in 1984, a business producing hand-painted, original textiles. Custom-designed bolts of silk sold through high-end interior design firms for residential applications and to couture designers for evening gowns. Simultaneously, her garment collection sold through apparel markets and recurring trunk shows hosted by select clientele. Gale sold the company in 2000.
Gale’s career focuses primarily on art with periods when she worked as a nurse, Austin Firefighter, health educator, coordinator, facilitator and administrative assistant. Gale’s passion for teaching weaves together her diverse career tapestry. Gale’s teaching roles include: Staff Artist at the Surface Design Studio of the Southwest Craft Center; facilitator of numerous art and dream understanding workshops in Texas and Mexico; Director of Education and Social Services of the Longevity and Wellness Center of South Texas; Health Educator of Padre Medical Group; Vitality Coordinator of Scott and White Health Plan; Austin Fire Department EMT Instructor; and a lifetime of teaching art to adults and children in Texas and Mexico.
Gale is a native Texan and moved to Panama during elementary school. Her formative years were spent exploring the jungle habitat with her three brothers, and swimming and sailing in the Panama Canal where their father was a Panama Canal Ship Pilot. Gale’s life-long marriage to Bill, their two grown children, and three grandchildren hold top priority in Gale’s life. Today Gale and her husband live between their Texas Hill Country home and their apple orchard in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. Gale is an avid gardener, enjoys sailing, cycling, cooking, reading, dream interpretation, and spending time with friends and family.
