DURELL ANTHONY
[adrotate banner=”5″]
Born and raised in Atchison, Kansas, Durell gravitated to music and performing early on and quickly began nurturing those gifts. Whether it was playing piano and drums at church, playing trumpet in the school band, singing in honor choir, leading a cast of his peers in school musicals, participating in competitive acting at the state & national levels, producing music in his home studio, or sifting through his parents extensive record and tape collection, he completely immersed himself in his craft. So much so, he would eventually be offered a vocal scholarship to Benedictine College, where he would go onto to graduate with a Bachelors degree in Sociology. Shortly after, he decided to leave the field of social services in order to pursue his true passion, singing. With no idea on how to launch a music career and only a few hundred dollars to his name, he packed up his car and headed west; the most difficult, yet most rewarding decision he ever made.
Now, with years of professional experience, Durell continues to solidify his reputation as a well-respected vocalist in Southern California. With a smooth and soulful vocal approach, he has cultivated a sound all his own. But if you listen closely, you may hear subtle similarities to Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Brian McKnight & Leon Bridges, whom he cites as major influences. His commitment to professionalism and developing his craft have to led to some incredible opportunities, including performing on NBC’s Elvis All-Star Tribute singing background vocals for gospel legend Yolonda Adams and country music star Carrie Underwood. He’s also worked alongside some of the most well-respected musicians and vocalists in the industry including Kevin Fluornoy (Chaka Khan, The Pointer Sisters), Karl Denson (Tiny Universe, Rolling Stones), Dorian Holley (Michael Jackson, James Taylor), Robbie Wyckoff (Roger Waters, Pablo Cruise) and many more. He works primarily with San Diego’s premier Top 40 corporate band, The Mighty Untouchables as well as leading his own project performing acoustic Soul, Pop & Jazz in smaller, intimate settings. When he’s not performing live, he’s in the studio lending his vocals to various recording projects, demos, and albums.
Also a gifted songwriter, his latest original single, Dreams, is available for purchase and streaming on all major platforms now. He’s also working on a full-length project with Los Angeles based Producer/Multi-Instrumentalist Jordan Childs, set to be released in late 2019.
Durell currently resides in La Jolla, CA with his wife, Kim, and their daughter, Kaydin.
