Phillip Colwart

Phillip Colwart has been honing his photography skills since his teenage years in scenic Uptown New Orleans. A 1984 Communications graduate of Loyola University, Phillip has enjoyed past careers as a radio personality, television camera man, corporate audio visual producer, and staff photographer for a distributor in the professional salon industry – where he was called upon to photograph literally everything from fashion shoots and staff portraits to runway models, event documentation, product shots and interiors… even parties, ribbon cuttings and architecture. Phillip photographed his first wedding for a coworker in 1996, and has documented weddings as far away as Palm Beach, FL and Wilmington, NC, and as close as his living room. He continues to learn wedding and portrait photography under many of the country’s top wedding photographers, and constantly attends educational events as a member of the Professional Photographers of America. In 2007, Phillip earned the credential of Certified Professional Photographer and is one of less than 2,500 photographers worldwide to hold that certification. The Greater New Orleans Professional Photographer’s Guild has honored Colwart as their Photographer of the Year for 2008. Also a member of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and Hammond Regional Arts Center, Phillip’s photography has helped secure various New Orleans Fashion Council Alpha Awards in 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2004 in hairstyling and product design categories for Paris Parker Salon Spas and Kay-la Purses. His commercial clients include Canadian National Railway, The Sportsman Channel, Legatus International, Renaissance Learning, La Carreta, Benson Dermatology, Etopa/Neill Corporation, Hammond Chamber of Commerce, the Hammond Downtown Development District, and Tangi Lifestyles Magazine. He regularly contributes photography to the Hammond Daily Star, Ponchatoula Times, Inside Northside and Sophisticated Woman. Phillip’s photo art can be found in various galleries around Hammond. Two of his works have been accepted by the Louisiana Fine Art Showcase for display in the Southeastern LA University’s President’s residence, in 2008 and in 2009.
