Ivan Konev

Ivan Konev was born in Ukraine and educated in Moscow where he studied at the prestigious Gnessin’s Academy and Music College affiliated with the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Among his teachers were some of the most illustrious representatives of the Russian school of piano playing including Alexei Skavrosnky, Vera Gornostaeva, Alexander Block, and Alexander Braginsky. Upon his graduation Ivan came to study piano and Liberal Arts at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. In 2010 Ivan finished his Doctoral degree in Piano performance from the University of Minnesota School of Music. As a soloist, Mr. Konev has won prizes in a number of international and local piano competitions, including the Andorra International Piano Competition, Corpus Christi International Piano Competition, Iowa International Piano Competition, Schubert Club Scholarship Competition, University of Minnesota School of Music Concerto Competition, and the Bell Scholarship Competition. An active performer in the United States and abroad, Ivan has appeared numerous times in solo and chamber music concerts showcasing not only standard repertoire, but also newly composed or rarely played masterpieces in such venues as Embassy of the United States in Moscow, Great, Small and Rachmaninoff Halls of the Moscow Conservatory, Sundin Music Hall, Ordway and Ted Mann Concert Halls in Minneapolis, World Vision and Incheon Cultural Center in Seoul (South Korea) among others. As a chamber music collaborator, Dr. Konev plays regularly with faculty members of University of Minnesota School of Music, UW – River Falls Music Department and members of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra. Ivan is a member of St. Croix Piano Trio and Isles Ensemble (Minneapolis, MN). He also performs throughout the region and internationally with his wife, Dr. Natalia Moiseeva (violin). Although Mr. Konev has built a professional life in the United States, he returns frequently to Russia and Ukraine to present concerts and educational programs. His most recent projects included performances with Kharkov Philharmonic Orchestra and Yalta Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Konev is a Founder and Artistic Director of the UWRF Piano Fest and UWRF Piano&Strings camp at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls where he is a Director of Keyboard Studies. He is also a member of piano faculty at the St. Paul Conservatory (Minnesota).
