The lavish production shows featuring exotic showgirls emerged in Las Vegas in the 1950’s when shows like the “Folies Bergere” were imported from France. An immediate sensation, producers on The Strip infused them with as much glamor and glitz as they could to lure the fast-living and high-rolling gaming crowds which flocked to the city to see them. Quickly Las Vegas became America’s playground and nothing symbolized it more than the new Las Vegas showgirls that adorned the stages up and down The Strip. What was a racey trend in the 1950’s and 1960’s has now become legendary and synonymous with the phenomenal growth and history of Las Vegas and its world famous Strip.
Fabulous fine artist Terry Ritter has emerged as the one to capture for the first time in a series of paintings the glamour of the Las Vegas showgirls. Having performed herself for many years on these very same stages, she has a unique perspective no other artist could bring to the subject. Her keen sense of emotion and knowledge of dance brings to each painting the artistry and the life force experienced by the performer herself. Terry’s inner understanding of the moment of expression leaps from the canvas to reach out and touch the viewer magically. She is able to communicate the artistry and expression that the dancers bring to their performance with vibrant colors, priceless poses, and wonderfully expressive faces. To see her work is to be transported to the excitement of the Las Vegas stage!
Working in oil and acrylic as well as fine watercolors Terry Ritter’s modern impressionistic style emphasizes both the rich color and fleeting movement of the subject matter. As well as these dazzling, dynamic stage scenes the artist also gives us a glimpse of the solitary world of the dancers backstage. It is a personal and sometimes whimsical touch that lets us into the performers’ world while the curtain is down. These collections of vibrant and intimate paintings are one-of-a-kind as only a performer can capture. Immersed in her subjects and mastering her technique under several highly regarded painters, Terry has emerged as the most sought after artist of the Las Vegas entertainment world.
Terry resides with her husband in Las Vegas, Nevada were she formerly worked for many years as an entertainer in various productions on the Las Vegas Strip.
