Rob Joyner

Rob Joyner is an emerging abstract artist from Dallas, Texas. With self-taught artistic abilities, he began painting in 2008 and primarily creates large-scale abstract oil, acrylic, and mixed media paintings. Key artists that have influenced his work are Jose Parla, Jackson Pollock and KAWS. Up until his solo show on October 19th, 2018, Rob sold his work out of his home on a referral basis.
After graduating from Jesuit College Prep of Dallas in 2006, Rob attended the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas and graduated from the University of North Texas in 2011 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. He also attended SMU’s Graphic Design program in 2014 to refine his ability in conveying messages across various media. In April of 2016, he married his wife, Michelle, at the Dallas Museum of Art. His wife gave birth to twins, Joules Violet and Ames Sterling on October 24, 2018.
I always felt different growing up. Thoughts constantly raced through my head and I couldn’t shut them off. I tried to
cope with them the best way I knew how, but it was always a temporary fix. Before I could speak about anxiety, I painted it. Painting helped me find my voice. In my art, I combine acrylic paint, oil pastels, charcoal, spray paint, spackle and random studio finds on canvas and marry them together in a way that comforts my mind. I expose multiple layers of the painting, all the way down to the bare canvas, revealing the convolution and vulnerability of the piece itself. My hope is that my art helps people understand that being complicated and different is beautiful.
