Lee Wilson

Birmingham native Lee Wilson can trace her artistic expression and desire to paint to early childhood. Enrolling in art lessons at age ten was the first step of a career that carried her to The University Of Montevallo and later The University of North Alabama to pursue studies in both art and a degree in interior design. Although working in the design field, her passion for painting was reignited after taking a position in The Loretta Goodwin Gallery in 1987-2016. Time spent with mentor and friend Loretta Goodwin proved to be invaluable to Wilson as she not only learned about working in a gallery, interacting with clients, and developing relationships with artists, she also was given opportunity to display her own paintings which lead to a full time career as a fine artist. Wilson’s abstracts, landscapes, and still life images demonstrate her use of bold, vibrant color and movement-created brush strokes. Inspired by nature and architectural renderings of landscapes and the use of color blocks, abstracts have become a favorite for Lee to produce. However, her angels have been the force behind her success. Though faceless, the angels provide comfort or motivation to a viewer without evoking the semblance of a particular individual. “I’ve always been intrigued with the mystery of angels. I believe that is why I paint them faceless. Painting this emotion through angels, places a link between the Spiritual revelation and the Earthly experience”.
