HEATHER STEWART is a Canadian choreographer and dance artist currently based in Boston, MA and Montreal, QC. She has been active as an independent choreographer since 2012 in both North America and Europe. Her work has been performed internationally in festivals and theatres in Canada, The United States, the UK, Germany and Spain. Most recently Heather received a 2018 Live Arts Boston Award in the dance category for a new creation with composer dull aka Marc Bartissol. She will develop this work at the Boston Center for the Arts where she is a 2018/19 Dancemaker in residence. In the past Heather’s work has been shortlisted for The Deustche Bank Award for Creative Enterprises in the Performance Category and she has received funding and awards from the Boston Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, the Somerville Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Her work pull | tirer was selected by Centre de Création O Vertigo (CCOV) for presentation as part of their new Open Studio program and was later presented by CCOV in espace cultural Georges-Émile-Lapalme at Place des Arts in Montreal.
Heather presented her first full-length work, entitled etch, in the fall of 2013 at Chisenhale Dance Space (London, UK). In 2014 Heather was an artist in residence at Tanzzentrale der region Nürnberg where she created a solo entitled roil. roil has since been presented by the Conduit Dance+ Festival (Portland, OR), Triskelion Arts (Brooklyn, NY), the Expanse Festival (Edmonton, AB) and the Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival (Saint John, NB). She has led Master classes at many institutions including Tanzzentrale, Moving Target Boston, Tufts University, and Boston Arts Academy. In the spring of 2014 she completed her MA in Advanced Dance Studies at The London Contemporary Dance School with a strong focus in choreography. She develops her work in collaboration with composer dull aka Marc Bartissol.
