Born in Transylvania, Romania, many years ago…
I studied painting, drawing and art history at the Fine Arts High School in the city of Cluj-Napoca in Romania, and graphic design at the Fine Arts Institute in Bucharest, Romania. Many of my works (designed and illustrated books) were awarded with national and international awards.
I immigrated with my family to United States in 1980 and one year later I started my first job at Macmillan Educational Company, a division of Macmillan Publishing Inc. in New York City as a graphic artist working on projects like Collier’s Encyclopedia as well as Merit Students, Collier’s and Health Yearbooks ‘till 1995.
I took thousands of photos in Manhattan and on Long Island where we lived, and after we moved to Florida in 1997 I continued to take pictures, this time attracted by the marine, fishing and boating subjects.
I could not resist the temptation to lay down on canvas the beauty of the landscape in Florida. Some of those paintings are in private and public collections in USA, Canada, Bahamas and Australia.
My works have been defined by my interests. Those created in the years I lived with my wife in Deerfield Beach, Florida between 1997 and 2010 and my recent paintings created after my wife and I moved to California in the summer of 2010. In Florida, living very close to the Atlantic Ocean I was impressed, better said fascinated with the beauty of the marine landscape, the towering summer clouds and the tormented water during the storms. Now I am far from the Pacific, close to the Sierra Nevada but something else happened: a change, a deep change in my understanding of the reason I enjoy painting so much. I paint for my own pleasure, trying to express myself, my emotions, my dreams, my spiritual approach of this beautiful world in which we are living, where the colors and the forms of things are indefinite. I believe that my passion and inspiration shows thru in my work. You’ll be the judge…
