Tom FisherTom Fisher was born in Little Falls, Minnesota, a Mississippi River town about 120 miles north of the Twin cities. Tom and his brother Bill did a lot of fishing on the Mississippi, as they lived on the Mississippi River approximately 8 miles south of Little Falls, near the Blanchard Dam and the little town of Royalton, Minnesota. In their teens, Tom and his brother would venture out on the Platte River and Mississippi River with all kinds of kid assembled boats and floating assemblages. He looked up to his older brother Bill and enjoyed visiting with him in St. Paul when he attended the St. Paul Art Institute on the hill next to the cathedral. His brother roomed with a very good portrait artist named Ken Fox. He accompanied his brother many times into Ken’s wonderful studio located in the basement studio of a mansion on Summit Avenue. Tom loved the smell and the ambiance found within his studio. It was then that he was determined to make Art a very important part of his life. His desire is to filter the three-dimensional image through heart-felt emotional responses and in some small way enrich the viewer’s spirit. Toward that end, he uses simplified line, enriched values, and complementary color in an attempt to give homage to the Creator, the true Artist of Excellence.” Tom’s is an impressionist oil artist that is easily identified by his signature use of bold brushwork and strong, bold color. He studied at the University of Minnesota, St. Cloud State University and Bemidji State University, with additional experience as a commercial technical illustrator for a top 500 company. His paintings are held in many private collections throughout the Unites States and has been featured in number of newspaper articles. He’s also produced numerous large-scale window designs in stained-glass for churches throughout the United States. As an artist, Tom tries to capture the color, line, value and design created by light as it cascades along the surfaces of the subject, In addition, he tries to simplify and yet hopefully leaves an impression that speaks to the viewer”. Usually he picks a dominant color and then with use of transparent glazes and additional intense DAScolor to bring out interest in different areas of the painting. His palette uses 10 colors in a double primary palette made up of warm and cool colors in both transparent and opaque layers of paint. He focuses on subject edges and uses transparent glazes combined with impasto brush strokes of opaque paint to provide the finished painting with greater impact. He studied Art at the University of Minnesota, St. Cloud State University and Bemidji State University, with an additional 20+ years experience as a commercial technical illustrator for one of the Fortune 500 companies. His paintings are held in many private collections throughout the Unites States and has been featured in number of articles. He has also produced numerous large scale window designs in stained-glass for churches throughout the United States.
