Robin Sisk
Originally from Pittsburgh, Robin Sisk is currently serving as Visiting Assistant Professor of Tuba & Euphonium at the University of Florida, Principal Tuba of the Gainesville Orchestra, and is on-call as a musician for the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Philharmonic. Previously, Dr. Sisk was a member of the music faculties at Missouri Southern State University, the University of Central Florida, Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona State College, and Seminole State College. During her time in the Sunshine State, she has become established as one of the most active and versatile freelance tubists across the region. She has performed most notably with the Florida Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Orlando Philharmonic, Bach Festival Orchestra of Winter Park, Sarasota Ballet, Ocala Symphony, and at theme parks including Walt Disney World and Legoland Florida. Robin has appeared with Band Bajha Brass throughout the U.S. and Canada, and she is a proud founding member of Fleur de Beat, the world’s first stilt-walking Dixieland Band, which performs across Florida and most recently at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba.
An avid brass-bander, she was Principal Eb Bass of the world-renowned Brass Band of Central Florida and of the New England Brass Band (Boston, MA), toured internationally with the Natural State Brass Band (Little Rock, AR), and has performed with the Athena Brass Band – America’s all-star female brass band.
Solo and chamber highlights include regional and international instrumental conferences, and she was a two-time semi-finalist for the International Tuba Euphonium Quartet Competition. Recording credits include the BBCF’s “Sing, Sang, Sung” (2007), “Omnium Gatherum” (2012), and “15” (2015), “All Is Bright: A Choral Christmas” (2013) from the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, and “Raw Earth: New Music for Wind Band” with the Hartt Wind Ensemble. Robin has also commissioned several new compositions for tuba in recent years: Under a Gibbous Moon for tuba and marimba by Steven Landis, Fragile Dreams for tuba, flugelhorn/trumpet, and piano by Barbara York,
and In League with Extraordinary Women tuba concerto by Matthew Nunes. Her teaching experience is equally diverse, having given performances, master classes, and held a wide array of teaching positions in public and private schools and organizations across the eastern U.S. She regularly serves as a low brass clinician and adjudicator for middle and high school programs. Robin earned a DMA from the Hartt School of the University of Hartford, MM in Tuba Performance from the University of South Florida and a BM in Music Education, Summa Cum Laude, from West Virginia University. Her primary teachers have included Scott Mendoker, Jay Hunsberger, Dave McCollum, and Les Dean, Sr.
