Metro Jazz Voices
Formed in June 2008, MJV has become THE hot new jazz group in Metro Detroit. The group is composed of 4-part harmony vocals and a combo of piano, bass and drums, with saxophone, flute, cello and guitar added by 2 of the singers. All members are award-winning singers and instrumentalists. Metro Jazz Voices is known for a variety of classic and contemporary vocal music, ranging from ‘Great American Songbook standards’ to ‘Easy Listening Pop’ to ‘Hard-hitting straight-ahead Jazz.’ The group has performed at hundreds of venues, in Michigan and around the country, including Crooked Tree Arts Center (Petoskey MI), Freedom Hall’s ‘Nathan Manilow’ Theater (Park Forest IL), the BARN Theater (Farmington MI), Germano’s Cabaret (Baltimore MD), the Dearborn Center for the Performing Arts (Dearborn MI), the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival (East Lansing MI), the Detroit Institute of Arts, ‘Music on the Plaza’ (Grosse Pointe), Saginaw’s ‘Friday Night Live’, the Southfield Gazebo, ‘B Jazz Verspers’ (Birmingham MI), Cliff Bells (Detroit) and historic Baker’s Keyboard Lounge (Detroit), just to name a few. MJV produced a self-titled debut CD in 2010, and released their landmark 2nd CD, “Wingin’ It” in 2015, featuring Symphony Orchestra and Big Band accompaniment, new original Lyrics to 6 instrumental Jazz classics, and a special guest appearance by world-famous saxophonist Richie Cole.
