Girl Friday
Girl Friday is Houston based singer/ songwriter Lisa Serice. Combining traditional, contemporary, and alternative acoustic, rock, and synthed sounds, her music is lyric driven, harmony infused, and designed to draw the listener into the story. In true singer/songwriter fashion, all songs are crafted to be performed either solo-acoustically with her guitar or fleshed out with a full band; making them versatile enough for a relaxing coffee house vibe or an energy-filled festival stage. Her first EP, “Light of the Moon,” was produced by Dan Workman, President and Owner of Sugar Hill Studios in Houston and member of the governing board of The Recording Academy. She co-produced her second EP, “Songbird,” with engineer Brian Baker of Sound Arts Studios in Houston and released it summer of 2011. Since then, several studio singles have been released and can be downloaded directly from her ReverbNation store.
Girl Friday is a member of both The Recording Academy and ASCAP and has played at notable acoustic venues including NYC’s landmark Bitter End, Mic Club and Wicked Willies (also in NY’s Lower East Village), Dallas’ House of Blues, Momo’s on Austin’s world famous 6th Street, nationally acclaimed listening room Dosey Doe Coffee House in The Woodlands, Lestat’s West Coffee House in San Diego, The DeGraw brothers’ National Underground in NYC, Houston’s McGonigel’s Mucky Duck (recognized at one of the nation’s top 20 acoustic venues), and many other acoustic coffeehouses and wine bars in the Greater Houston area such as GenuWine, Water2Wine, Crescent Moon, and 13 Celsius. Girl Friday has also been an active participant in “Chick Singer Night;” the world’s most notable and longest-running songfest for female artists which has featured acclaimed artists Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, and Paula Cole to name a few.
An advocate of services designed to improve the lives of children, Girl Friday is also a musician volunteer in the Houston community with Love Street Light Circus (TONIC…take our noise into children’s hospitals), a non-profit musicians on call program that brings live music to the bedsides of pediatric cancer, renal, and orthopedic patients. She also supports The Y’s Partners Campaign, donating performances and portions of EP sales to raise money to scholarship children into programs that promote a healthy spirit, mind, and body. Girl Friday has donated song rights to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and is a songwriter for the national Songs of Love Foundation; writing original, customized tunes for critically ill pediatric patients in hospitals across the US.
