Gabriel Basurto
I am an illustrator, graphic designer, painter, and sculptor. I have a Bachelors degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in Drawing with a minor in Graphic Design. I also have a technical degree in Advertising Design. The combination of all three fields of study has given me an opportunity to create art that I find challenging and contemporary. I draw on nature, architecture, geometry, mathematics, science, ancient and modern history to create artwork that is intelligent and eye catching for the viewer. I want to draw in the viewer and allow them to lose themselves in my illustrations and artwork so that they can create their own narrative for each image. The Graphic Design work that I create allows me to communicate a statement or an identity for a client’s product or services to a wide range of people on many platforms. The mediums I use are charcoal, ink, paint, color pencil, soft pastels, markers, and computer graphics programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop and In Design. I have three illustration art series titled the Geometric Art Series, The Lost Realm Series and the Wild West Series. I won best drawing in the UTEP Student Art Show in 2012 for Lost Realm Diptych No. 45 and 46. I had my first solo art show in 2014 at the El Paso Museum of Art. It was a wall installation titled The Mechanism, which is based on the Antikythera Mechanism. I am a free lance artist who resides in El Paso, TX.
