Katya Gudaeva is a makeup and hair artist from Moscow, now living in Seattle. She started in 2010. Always having a goal to perform with high level of professionalism, dedication and respect Katya has been working with different clients such as Barneys New York, Tommy Bahama, Subaru, Microsoft, Amazon, Pharmaca, HULU, United Airlines, Julep, King5, Totokaelo, Asolo, DVF Studio, Amy Schumer, Macklemore, Train, Zola Jesus, He is We, Hey Marseilles, and more. Working on art projects and editorial photo shoots gives Katya the opportunity to be creative and explore colors, textures, styles and new techniques. Being able to see how her makeup can compliment fashion styling to change a talent’s appearance and create a story is a great feeling!
The main lesson she’s learned working as a makeup artist is to not be afraid to try – going beyond what’s comfortable can expand our horizons and make us even better. Katya Gudaeva, winner of the 2014 TEMPTU Pro Artist Talent Search, gives us the inside story behind her life as a makeup artist and the best airbrushing tips and tricks for working on commercials, editorials, short films, videos, TV and special events. Photography did. Being on set and seeing firsthand the creative process involved, I realized that I wanted to be a part of it and try my hand in makeup. Fresh, clean and crystal. For me, makeup becomes more interesting when the focus isn’t on too many details. I am more drawn to a look if something is missing.
Airbrushing is the quintessential makeup application for sheer layers, best coverage, perfect blending and seamless gradients. One of my art projects was with talented Russian photographer Anna Doctor. I used Temptu airbrush products to create a chevron effect on the models face. Everywhere! Sometimes the model inspires me, or the colors and textures I see in nature. Museums and galleries are also a great way to get new ideas as well. For the upcoming season, a powerful cheek and flawless complexion are a must. We’ve also seen a lot of 60’s and Twiggy inspired makeup concepts on the Runways FW 2014 that make me think that eyelashes and bold lines are going to be very popular next season. S/B Contour in shade 085 because it`s just perfectly cool-toned, and the best shade for a natural looking contour. Also, S/B Highlighter in Champagne Shimmer gives a nice healthy glow – a must for any makeup artist’s arsenal! Being light-handed with the airbrush is the key for a seamless cosmetics application. Be creative and stay inspired!
