Shauné Hayes
Washington DC based makeup artist Shauné Hayes has been working in the industry for over 10 years. In that time, she has become one of the top makeup artists in DC. With a keen eye for detail and a skilled deft hand, Shauné has worked across many areas including commercial print, fashion, television, video, red carpet and celebrity.
She loves clean, modern makeup and has a distinctive glamor and signature look which brings out the natural beauty in her clients.
“I like to enhance the natural characteristics of my client while keeping the face authentic. I want them to feel fresh and comfortable in their makeup, not like they’re wearing a mask.”
She discovered her passion for makeup after doing a friend’s face for a hair show. From there it was no turning back for this former assistant news editor and systems consultant for The Washington Post.
She worked for Lancôme Cosmetics where she sharpened her skills as a freelance makeup artist. She has also dedicated years of education and hands-on training — studying in Toronto, New York and D.C. — to learn from some of the best in the business. She is a firm believer that great makeup begins with great skin, and her experience as a skin care specialist ensures each client achieves her beauty potential. “If the skin is amazing, everything else will fall into place.”
Shauné’s passion for makeup artistry doesn’t stop when her brushes are packed away. She has volunteered for various charity events including the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good Feel Better” program, where she taught beauty techniques to women cancer patients in active treatment. “My mother is a breast cancer survivor, so to use my love of makeup artistry in that way was tremendously rewarding,” she says.
Shauné enjoys every minute of her work and is so blessed to have discovered her true passion.
“I used to say I stumbled into makeup by doing a favor for a friend. But a quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer says it best: ‘There is no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love; there’s only scarcity of resolve to make it happen.’ “
