SOLA is an American singer and songwriter, whose musical style takes after female icons Annie Lennox, Sade, Lana del Rey and Madonna, and cross-over world artists like Sting, Bjork, Ofra Haza and Robert Plant. SOLA met Grammy winning producer Tim Sonnefeld in 2013 when both were residing in Philadelphia. Tim is best recognized for Usher’s Raymond vs. Raymond album and developed SOLA’s musicality to highlight her powerful vocals over heavy strings and latin/world dance beats.
Prior to writing original songs, SOLA was a classical musician in both voice and strings. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and studied with Maestro Antonio Conte Pugliese and Arlene Shrut, head vocal coach at The Julliard School. In 2011, she met guitarist Nick Jarosz while living in Washington DC and for a short time, formed indie rock group Soul Kitchen Collective, inspired by The Doors, with drummer Dante Pope and bassist Steven West. The unique foursome had immediate chemistry but after recording their first EP at House Records, the group disbanded and SOLA began recording with music producer and cinematographer Simon Rogers, and electronic violinist Brian Fitzy. Her first video, Closer To You, won several songwriting awards and jump started her solo singing career. SOLA toured the US as a singer-songwriter and then moved to Hollywood in 2015 to regularly write and record with Tim Sonnefeld. During this time, SOLA was also writing music for TV and film when her photographer connected her with Brazilian DJ/producer, Rey Vercosa, who was spinning for festivals in Ibiza and asked her to write songs for his label, RV Rec ords. Their most recent compilation album, Ibiza Summer 2018, went straight to #1 on Beatport, the world’s largest dance music streaming platform.
SOLA’s debut song, STRANGER, is available on YouTube. She also holds a 200-Hour Teaching Certification in Ashtanga Yoga and occasionally leads Kirtan sessions, a powerful, meditative concert experience often escalating in energy to what is called a Devi rave. SOLA’s spiritual practice drives her promotion of world consciousness in today’s mainstream pop culture.
