Jim Marxen
Jim Marxen’s paintings are bright and colorful, and reflect his conviction that we humans must live in a sustainable manner within the environment, and restore the places we’ve damaged. His work conveys optimism, while at the same time underscoring the need to ensure all people have the same opportunity to experience the beauty of this world. He’s been painting on a semi-professional basis since 2007. In that time, he’s placed work in more than 40 shows throughout Northern California, and sold hundreds of pieces to collectors. He has won numerous awards including Awards of Merit from the California State Fair. He’s also had his work included in the prestigious Crocker-Kingsley Show at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento.

Marxen’s landscapes bear an influence from the work of Gregory Kondos. But Marxen also textures his ’scapes with post-impressionist pointilistic brushstrokes. His urban scenes, which include Sacramento-area landmarks and snapshots of daily life, have the sharper outlines and harder edges of cities—but his palette of vivid hues doesn’t pale.” Sacramento Style Magazine said this about his work: “His colorful urban landscapes and figures nearly jump off of the canvas with rich vibrant hues.” He was one of a handful of Sacramento artists selected to create murals to enliven the Franklin Boulevard District. He does commission work.
