Jenna Rae Lorusso
enna Rae Lorusso is a soprano from Acton, Massachusetts. She received a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Westminster Choir College, and graduated from University of Miami’ Frost School of Music with a Master’s degree in Voice Performance. Upcoming performances include the Queen of the Night in Nahant Music Festival’s The Magic Flute this coming June. Later this summer, she will sing the role of Sandrina in Mozart’s Die Gärtnerin aus Liebe (La finta giardiniera) at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury, VT. Last summer, she performed the role of Susanna in the Middlebury Deutsche Schule’s Figaros Hochzeit as well as Josephine in Nahant Music Festival’s H.M.S. Pinafore. Other recent appearances include the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with Belmont Open Sings and the Powers Music School orchestra. In summer 2016, her performances included the Mozart Exsultate Jubliate with the SAOS Orchestra at the Mozarteum Wiener Saal, a recital in the Schloss Mirabell Marmosaal as a winner of the Mirabell Concert Competition, and P.D.Q. Bach’s The Stoned Guest with Nahant Summer Music Festival (Carmen Ghia). She has also appeared in Golijov’s Ainadamar (Second Solo Niña) with Frost Opera Theater, which was named one of the Top Ten Performances of 2016 by South Florida Classical Review. She also performed excerpts of Rigoletto and Impresario with Hispanic-American Lyric Theater, and the Bachianas Brasilieras No.5 with Frost Horn Ensemble. Past performances include Mozart Mostly (Countess,
Fiordiligi, excerpts) with Frost Opera Theater, the Operetta/Zarzuela Showcase (Marietta, Giuditta, excerpts) with the Hispanic-American Lyric Theater, Suor Osmina in Frost Opera Theater’s Suor Angelica, Aminta in Westminster Opera Theater’s Il re pastore, and Mademoiselle Silberklang in Westminster Opera Theater’s Der Schauspieldirektor (cover performance). Jenna has participated in the CoOPERAtive program as both a Young Artist (2013) and CoOPERAtive Fellow (2014). In Spring 2014, she was also a recipient of the Handel and Haydn Society’s Barbara E. Maze Award for Musical Excellence. During her time with the Westminster Symphonic Choir, Jenna had the opportunity to sing major works with some of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including the Verdi Requiem with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin (Kimmel Center), the Cantata Criolla and Choros No. 10 with the Simón Bolivar Youth Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel (Carnegie Hall), Beethoven’s 9th with the West-East Divan Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim (Carnegie Hall) and with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin (Kimmel Center), Rachmaninoff’s The Bells with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski, and the New York premiere of the Rouse Requiem with the New York Philharmonic under Alan Gilbert (Carnegie Hall).
