Janette Benedon Brenner
Janette Benedon Brenner began studies of Middle-Eastern dance in 1971 and went on to study with more than 200 of the world’s leading Oriental performers and instructors. Her other studies have included Ballet, Modern dance, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Flamenco along with extensive training in theater arts. She is a ‘Master of Zils’ (finger cymbals) having studied with world renowned musicians. Ms. Brenner has performed world wide and taught workshops and classes throughout the United States. In 1986 she won ‘Magician of the Year’ award for her unique blend of Classic Oriental dance with sleight-of-hand and production magic, giving her the title ‘MAGIC DANCER’. In 1999, Ms. Brenner was awarded the titles ‘People’s Choice’ and ‘Palace Dancer’.
In 1987, Ms. Brenner cofounded DANCERS SUPPORTING DANCERS, an organization dedicated to quality performances, artistic outlets for dancers and mutual support in the community. Her efforts have united dancers across the Southwest. For 10 years, she owned and operated the ETHNIC ARTS STUDIO in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she taught Introduction through Performance level Oriental dance before relocating to Monterey. With the opening of the A PARK AVENUE STUDIO in September of 2002, Ms. Brenner has successfully continued her efforts to unite the area dance communities, provide outlets for expression and quality instruction. Again offering classes at all levels, Ms. Brenner’s unique approach to teaching, with the main goal to bring forth the individual dancer, has made her a favorite among serious students. Her strict adherence to detail, extensive knowledge and lighthearted sense of humor make her classes both challenging and delightful.
