Grenadier

Grenadier

When I first moved to the Berkshire Hills it led to a new chapter at Grenadier Pottery where I am currently producing a line of stoneware that incorporates my impressions from the natural world in elegant bowls, plates, sushi platters and more. Each piece is unique, made with its own leaf or plant. I use slips and glazes layered in the wet and bisqued states to add to the depth of the finished surface quality. Natural oxides and glazes are mixed by hand at the studio, using copper, cobalt and iron to achieve some of the the colors found in nature. I walk on woodland trails and hike over mountains, around lakes and ponds. Leaves are everywhere, maples pressed in muddy paths, ferns edging forests, willow trees hanging over streams, as well as fields of wildflowers. I collect them all… My studio and gallery are in Monterey Massachusetts, near Great Barrington in the heart of the Berkshires, and are almost always open as I am frequently working there. I hope you may have time to visit if you are in the Berkshires to see the full variety of what I make. With nature, as with clay and art, the variations are endless…I hope to give you a sampling of what I make on this website. Thanks for your interest in my work. “Ellen Grenadier has been making tableware and custom tiles and murals for over 30 years.
